Find An Eye Care Specialist

The PuriLens System is available through eye care specialists in the United States.

There are several types of eye care specialists in practice today. Following is a brief description of some of the different types of eye care specialists:

Optometrist
An Optometrist is a Doctor of Optometry (OD) and is a state licensed professional. The Doctor of Optometry diagnoses and treats optical deficiencies and deformities, vision and muscular anomalies, eye disease and vision problems, provides routine eye care services and prescribes and dispenses corrective lenses. Optometrists examine and prescribe corrective lenses, contact lenses, and in some states, medications. In some cases, the optometrist will provide post care surgery.

Ophthalmologist
An ophthalmologist is a medical doctor (MD) or a Doctor of Osteopathy (DO). The ophthalmologist is specially trained in medical and surgical treatment of eye disease and other conditions. The ophthalmologist is trained to perform surgery on the eyes, prescribe medications, and examine and treat the eyes for diseases and anomalies.

Optician
The optician determines, prepares, produces, and dispenses eyewear best suited to the wearer's needs, wants, and requirements. The optician is able to generate optical lenses, frames, and other specialty devices for the intended wearer upon review, analysis, and interpretation of the prescription from an ophthalmologist or optometrist. In some states the Optician may dispense contact lenses from a prescription by an Optometrist or an Ophthalmologist.

An optician also adjusts, replaces, and repairs lenses, frames, and devices and can reproduce or duplicate devices prepared at a former time.

Contact lens technician
A contact lens technician is someone trained in the instrumentation, fitting, evaluation, patient instruction, and follow-up of various types of contact lenses and work for an Optometrist or Ophthalmologist.
