Mechanism of Action

The compact electronic PuriLens System cleaning and disinfecting unit uses subsonic agitation in combination with a germicidal UV light to clean and disinfect soft contact lenses. The subsonic agitation removes lens deposits and microorganisms. The UV light disinfects by killing the microorganisms in the solution. Lenses are held safely in the color-coded PuriLens lens holder.

Technical Specifications

Cleaning
PuriLens cleans lenses by creating hydrodynamic shear with preservative-free PuriLens Solution that lifts daily accumulations of lipids, mucin, protein, and other debris from the lens surface. The hydrodynamic shear is generated by subsonic agitation at 3600 cycles per minute.

Disinfecting
Microorganisms are irradiated with UV-C at 253.7 nm = 1000 µw/cm2 at one inch for 15 minutes. The UV radiation is absorbed by the microorganism's DNA, causing cross-linking and breaking of the nucleic acid bonds. This results in rapid death of microorganisms.
