Multi-purpose Solutions

Multi-purpose solutions are designed to perform three different functions (cleaning/disinfecting, rinsing, and storage) at the same time. In addition, some newer multi-purpose solutions contain ingredients to help remove protein. For some people, using one solution is the most convenient option. However, the major disadvantage of these all-in-one solutions is that they do not work as well as individual solutions intended for specific functions. Because these solutions are intended to come in direct contact with your eyes, they are formulated so that they will have the least amount of negative reactions with the eye. This may lessen the efficacy of the cleaning and disinfecting agents. Yet because they contain chemicals, they may cause sensitivity reactions like red eye.

In addition, the correct use of most multi-purpose solutions requires manual rubbing of the lens, which not only is time consuming, but also could potentially cause lenses to rip or tear.

Finally, multi-purpose solutions typically require a lengthy period (generally four to six hours) for disinfection.

If you are a multi-purpose solution user and you experience any problems with your lenses, you should contact an eye care specialist to see if the PuriLens System is right for you.
